You must’ve read about hate crimes against Asians — from the Atlanta killing of six Asian women to the Covid-19 hate crimes against Asian Americans. Stop AAPI Hate reported an increase in anti-Asian violence since the coronavirus pandemic began. But today, let’s talk about a different side of Asian hate — the one that Asians spew toward each other.

I am an Indian by birth; I moved to the United States eight years ago. I’m very fortunate I’ve never experienced racism firsthand. Instead, I’ve received more hatred from fellow Asians and Indians. Hatred within the same race is as real as internalized racism.

Asian countries fancy America more than they like each other

A Pew Research Center study shows what Asian countries think of each other and of Americans. It’s telling because it concludes that as an Asian, I’d rather collaborate with a capitalist superpower on the other side of the planet than my neighbor.
